ALFABLOK™

A non-organic building material, which belongs to the category of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Blocks. It conforms to the requirements of EN 771-4 harmonized standard.

Building Applications

ALFABLOK is a lightweight construction material having a porous structure. It follows the German technical standard DIN 4165 and carries the CE marking.

 

ALFABLOK is used in wall-construction in all types of constructions ranging from single and multi-floor buildings to industrial ones. It presents many advantages compared to other wall-construction materials owing to its high manufacture technology and superior physical characteristics. Its extraordinary properties allow its use for artwork, such as sculpture and/or other decorative purposes.

 

About 70-80% of the ALFABLOK volume is made of extremely small, spherical and finely dispersed air spaces. Its ingredients are pure quartz sand, Portland cement, quick lime, gypsum and aluminum paste.

 

Product Benefits

The major benefits of ALFABLOK are:

  • Superior heat insulation; due to its porous composition, ALFABLOK provides a high level of thermal insulation. Therefore, it offers significant economies in the initial outlay and running costs of heating and/or cooling buildings.
  • Lightweight structure; ALFABLOK reduces the overall building loads with its low dead weight, thus considerably improving the seismic performance and safety of buildings (dry specific weight ranging from 400 - 800 kg/M3).
  • Fire-proof; according to DIN 4102 norms, ALFABLOK is a class 1 fire-proof material that can withstand temperatures up to 1200oC, thus being an ideal choice where fire safety is of prime concern.
  • Precision-made; being manufactured to exact dimensions with very close tolerances, ALFABLOK provides high levels of accuracy in setting out. Its smooth faces and sharp arises allow fair-faced finishing with or without liquid coatings.
  • Environment-friendly; it contains no radioactive or toxic substances and is produced with low energy consumption using comparatively less raw materials for an equivalent volume. Furthermore, ALFABLOK entails very little if any environment-polluting waste, in neither production nor construction.

 

Manufacturing

Pure quartz sand, Portland cement, lime and gypsum ground to a fine powder, are mixed with water and pure aluminum powder is added as an aerating agent. The resulting slurry is poured into shallow casting cars which are already fitted with corrosion-proofed steel-mesh reinforcement, also manufactured in-house.

 

Once the pour is complete, the cars are rolled into a holding tunnel where mix temperature is continuously monitored until initial set takes place. This being attained in about 3 to 4 hours, the entire casting is moved onto a bed of a computer-controlled cutting machine where products of the required size are obtained with millimeter precision.

 

The cut casting, still intact, is then rolled into autoclaves for high-pressure steam curing, which lasts about 12 hours under a pressure of 12 atmospheres and a temperature of 1900C. Products coming out of this steam curing stage are first subjected to stringent quality checks and then marketed ready-to-use as the light-weight, high strength aerated building material.

 

Dimensions - Packaging

Masonry blocks are of 60 cm length, 25 cm width, while thickness ranges from 5 to 25 cm in increments of 2,5 cm. The product comes in pallets, bearing the CE marking, wrapped with shrink folios bearing the ALFABLOK trademark.

 

Availability

ALFABLOK is available at all of Heracles distribution terminals. It is also sold through the channel of traders of building materials throughout Greece.
