Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our principles and drives our business operations.
The business and sustainability context |
Our products meet basic human need to construct homes and provide the basic infrastructure: the roads, the hospitals, the schools, the factories and offices that underpin our common life. Yet, business as usual is not a sustainable option for us or for the world as a whole. Together we must find a way of delivering the benefits of economic growth, while leaving a lighter trace on the earth. |
Sustainable developmentThe Brundtland Report defines sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". Sustainable development aims to reconcile 3 major stakes:
Lafarge Group’s action worldwide |
The Lafarge Group is acting positively to contribute to a sustainable future. The response of Lafarge has been formed as a result of its active dialogue with stakeholders. The Lafarge Group's Sustainability Ambitions 2012 are its program of improvement for the medium term. In each case Lafarge has measured the group's performance status and set future targets that, when achieved, will deliver major improvements for areas such as Health & Safety, fighting climate change and protecting biodiversity. All across the world we are progressing well against these goals.

Environmental Policy |
As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Heracles, as a member of Lafarge Group, for years has incorporated environmental issues in its strategy and culture.
Towards this direction, Heracles commitments cover fighting climate change, protection of the natural environment, more efficient use of energy and natural resources, minimizing waste production, harmful air emissions and water discharges, preservation of historical heritage landscape and biodiversity.
The Environmental Policy defines the commitments regarding operations, the development of new facilities and major modification projects, resources, training and research, procurement, product stewardship and stakeholder relations.
Every employee and member of the management, within the limits of its responsibilities must be involved in the company efforts and commitments through the implementation of laws and regulations as well as the Environmental Policy. Moreover, he/she should report to the responsible people of any violation or potential exposure of the Group to risks that come to his/her attention.
The Environmental Policy is displayed in all our facilities and is available in electronic format on the local network and the official website of the company.
