Initiatives & partnerships

Lafarge Group has a well-established tradition of working in partnership to foster sustainability. The global partnerships with WWF, CARE and Habitat for Humanity are prime examples of this, as well as the participation in initiatives such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's Cement Sustainability Initiative.

 

Using influence within the industry

Heracles Group uses its influence positively to foster sustainability within Greece.

 

It is a founder member of the Hellenic Global Compact Network, which was launched in May 2008. The network exists to promote and uphold the Ten Principles of the UN Secretary General's Global Compact relating to human rights, environment, and anticorruption. Heracles as a member will record and publish all its data and commitments regarding the Principles.

 

Heracles Group is also one of the founding members of the Greek Business Council for Sustainable Development, which was launched in November 2008. The Council is under the auspices of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and represents the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in Greece.

The Lafarge Group is a founding member of the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), which represents the cement industry in the WBCSD.

 

The Cement Sustainability Initiative was created in 1999 to explore what sustainable development means for the cement industry and identify and undertake joint and individual actions to improve the sustainability of the cement industry. The CSI today has 18 members, with operations in more than 100 countries worldwide. CSI is currently co-chaired by Lafarge.

 

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development is a CEO-led membership based organization of over 200 leading global corporations in 35 countries. Its purpose is to advocate the business and broader societal benefits of sustainable development.

Reporting on Sustainability Actions


The 2014 Heracles Sustainability Report constitutes the seventh consecutive annual publication and presents our performance and progress made in 2014. The report covers all necessary disclosures requirements for comprehensive in accordance to GRI G4.
