The Building of Tomorrow, a collaboration between HERACLES Group and the University of Patras
HERACLES Group and the University of Patras have signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of a modern and energy-efficient building that will operate as an incubator for start-ups in the University Campus in Rio, providing the infrastructure for young scientists to develop innovative business ideas.
The building will be designed, will be constructed and will operate aiming at the minimum environmental footprint throughout its life cycle. Driven by the principles of the circular economy, low-carbon building materials with a high percentage of recycled materials as well as energy-saving and value added building materials will be utilized, such as the green concrete range ECOPact with recycled aggregates, the lightweight mortar AIRIUM with top-tier insulation performance, the water permeable concrete HYDROMEDIA and the decorative concrete range ARTEVIA. Moreover, the robotic 3D printing technology (3D CONCRETE PRINTING) will be applied on a real scale for the first time in Greece.
The project will be brought to life with the sponsorship of HERACLES Group aiming to provide the students of the University of Patras with opportunities to bring together their research activity with innovative entrepreneurship; thus, contributing to the strengthening of the domestic ecosystem of start-ups.
Mr. Charalambos Kouris, Sustainability Director of HERACLES Group, mentioned "Today, we are delighted to announce the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Patras for the design and construction of a modern and sustainable construction, which will support the innovative work of young scientists and reinforce the start-up entrepreneurship in our country". .
