Geocycle Hellas, a member of HERACLES Group, offers a solution to mixed green waste management

HERACLES Group, firmly committed to saving valuable natural resources and drastically improving its environmental footprint, implements in practice and constantly promotes the principles of circular economy in its production model. Following the completion of the pioneering project on the use of biomass energy in cement production at HERACLES Group plants in Volos and Milaki in Evia, Geocycle Hellas, a member of HERACLES Group, invests in the sustainable management of mixed green waste. These are tree trimmings and plant residues gathered during waste collection and cleaning of public and private spaces (yards, parks, roads etc.).

In the case of local authorities in particular, the initiative of Geocycle Hellas responds to a major need in the field of municipal waste management. As a result of the limited waste management infrastructure and resources of the municipalities, the vast majority of green waste - especially tree trimmings - is mixed with bulky waste and, eventually, directed to landfills; thus, polluting the environment.

Geocycle Hellas, a waste management provider, using appropriate equipment, offers a tailor-made solution, in line with the principles of the circular economy, for sustainable waste management and reduced landfilling. At the same time, it contributes substantially to the prevention of fires and other natural disasters, removing hazardous combustible materials from groves and residential areas. Over the past year, Geocycle Hellas has treated over 40,000 tonnes of mixed green waste diverting them from landfills.

Through Geocycle Hellas, HERACLES Group establishes synergies with local authorities, aiming at the safe management of waste and utilizing it as a source of energy in the Group's cement plants. This process yields multiple benefits for the environment, improving simultaneously the local communities’ quality of life.
