HERACLES Group automates Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) across all concrete plants
A new era of transparency and sustainable construction

With a strategic commitment to sustainable development and to reducing environmental impact across every stage of production, HERACLES Group, a member of Holcim, has completed the automation of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) issuance for all 30 of its fixed concrete plants nationwide.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified document that communicates a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle. Much like a nutrition facts label for construction materials, an EPD provides transparent, reliable data on key environmental indicators — from carbon footprint and energy consumption to waste generation — enabling informed and responsible decision-making.

Through the automation of EPD issuance, HERACLES Group is now able to deliver both Product and Project Specific EPDs with speed, accuracy, and consistency. This significantly enhances visibility into the environmental performance of its concrete products and creates added value for projects that require tailored environmental documentation, such as large-scale infrastructure works and certified sustainable buildings.

The new automated process is based on the continuous, automatic collection of production data and life cycle assessment analysis using preverified software developed by Climate Earth, a globally recognised provider of digital solutions for environmental documentation in the construction sector. This ensures that environmental data is calculated using a standardised, robust methodology that captures the impact of concrete across its full life cycle — from manufacturing and use to end-of-life.

All EPDs are published on the internationally recognised IBU – Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. platform, ensuring full compliance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards.

By leveraging this technology, HERACLES Group is transforming the way environmental performance is measured, communicated, and reported. Construction industry specifiers — from architects and engineers to developers — gain full visibility into the composition and environmental performance of concrete solutions, supporting compliance with EU regulatory requirements and facilitating projects pursuing internationally recognised green building certifications such as LEED and BREEAM. At the same time, the automated EPD framework supports the informed selection of low-carbon solutions, including the ECOPact concrete range.

Commenting on the initiative, Vasilis Iakovou, Head of Concrete of HERACLES Group, stated:
“Automating EPD issuance is a decisive step towards embedding environmental information into everyday decision-making. It allows us to provide our partners with transparent, reliable, and project-specific environmental data, while actively supporting the transition to sustainable construction through low-carbon concrete solutions that meet the evolving demands of modern projects.”
